How books nourish my soul

Have you ever had this feeling when reading a book and you’re craving to finish it, only to start another one? Again, and again. As if books were nourishing yourself as you read them. Sounds crazy, right? Well, not that much for books lover I guess.

The more I read, the harder it is to stop. It’s more than a past-time, it’s a need. I’m always thinking of a new book, or the one I’m reading and planning on finishing as soon as possible. It’s an ever-ending list of books to read and yet, in my craving to start another one, it’s a hope to read them all. Oh boy, I wish it could be possible to read all the books in the world.

It might be silly for someone whose passion are not books. And if it’s not, think of something else. Think of something that, when doing it, you are the most yourself, happy, at peace. When you do it, it just sounds right, like it’s your thing. Now you get it? Well, I hope you do. I hope everyone could understand the power of books and words making so many amazing stories and characters. Unfortunately, not everyone enjoys reading, but I surely hope that most people have something really special to them, as books are for me. In that way, you can understand what I’m talking about.

I used to invent stories before knowing how to read. As a teenager, I tried to write a million stories and beginnings of novels. I've always have stories in my life. It’s not as if my life was terrible and I needed to escape. I just like the feeling of traveling in your mind in somewhere else. It doesn’t have to be better than your life, you only just need to escape for the time you’re reading. That’s the power of books, you can just fly away and never come back as you were before. I firmly believe that every book brings something, even if it’s bad, even if you disliked it. It has made your feel something, it has captured your mind and imagination, made you think. And again, it’s a power books have. They procure you so many feelings, thoughts and ways of thinking. With books, you just feel.

The more I read, the more I love books. The more I read, the more I feel intelligent, opinionated and cultivated. The more I read and the more I fall in love with words, stories, sentences and magic behind them all. Now please tell me what is YOUR thing. What brings you that spark inside of you?

I'm 24, I've got freckles (you get it now) and I'm a grumpy French, sometimes, who writes in English. I love books, cats, le barbu, pizzas and Dicaprio.

  1. I feel you. Especially right now, I've been reading way more than I did before because reading actually helps my mind to stop thinking about the pandemic and like be somewhere else. I used to need 1 month to finish a book but now I'm able to finish one book every week and so at the end of the week, I always scroll through bookstagrams or goodreads to find new reads. reading is my way of taking my mind off the current situation I guess.

    1. I totally get you! This strange time is so bad for the mind and anxiety. It's probably more important now to find something that put our mind at ease, even if it's just for a moment every day. I'm glad you find something that makes you happy!

  2. Is there anyone who doesn't like finishing beloved books? As for me, it occurs during reading a long novel because you're eventually getting used to the characters.
