About me

Hi

I'mEva Marie

French student and blogger

Welcome to my blog, where I love to write about anything that comes to my mind, with no taboo. I’m 24, I’ve got freckles (you get it now) and I’m a grumpy French, sometimes, who writes in English. I love books, cats, le barbu, pizzas and Dicaprio. Besides that, there is not much that you need to know about me. Except that his blog has seen is first day back in 2017, and I'm proud that I manage to keep it that long.

Carrot cake, the recipe

Last year, I discovered a recipe that became my favorite cake ever. It doesn't even has chocolate in it! It's a really soft and autumnal cake if you fancy a change of chocolate cakes. I usually make a butternut cake but it always takes me ages to make it (I grate the butternut by myself, I don't have a food processor or anything). This time, I wanted to make it quicker, so I took carrots instead. And let me tell you, it tastes as good as the butternut one. So feel free to chose one or the other, they're just so good.

What you'll need :

For the cake :

  • 200g of flour
  • 300g of grated carrot (or butternut)
  • Salt
  • 50g of almond powder (optional)
  • 130g of butter
  • 100g of sugar
  • 1 to 3 tsp of cinnamon
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 sachet of baking powder

For the icing :
  • 200g of cream cheese
  • 3 to 4 tbsp of icing sugar
  • Vanilla (powder)

Follow these steps

  1. Mix the cream cheese and icing sugar together, than add the vanilla. Stir together than put in the fridge.
  2. Separate the whites from the yolks then whip the egg whites.
  3. Whip the sugar with the egg yolks, salt and cinnamon. Add the flour and the almond powder if you have some.
  4. Melt the butter and add it in the mix, then the egg whites.
  5. Add the carrot/butternut, the baking powder than mix everything gently.
  6. Pour into a buttered mold and bake for 1 hour at 180°C.
  7. Once it's cool, add the icing on top. It's now reading to be eaten!

Biscuit de Savoie, the recipe

If you have enough of yogurt cake, this one if for you. A very fluffy, but light cake, tasty and super easy. We bought book of grandma’s recipe the other day, and I wanted to try this one for quite some time now. I like elaborate cake, but sometimes I want something quick and easy. However, if you’re not a big fan of eggs, I would not recommend this one for you, or just use something else instead with four eggs.

What you’ll need:

150 g of sugar

4 to 6 eggs

100 g of flour

40 g starch

1 sachet of vanilla sugar

1 pinch of salt

The recipe

  1. In a bowl, beat the sugars with the egg yolks until it’s smooth.
  2. Beat the egg whites until stiff with the salt. Add this to your sugar mixing with the flour and starch very lightly. Use a spoon to not break the egg whites. The mix should be consistent.
  3. Pour the mixing into a baking tin (use butter and flower for your tin) and put it in the oven for 40 minutes at 170°C. Wait until it cools before eating.

Here it is, quick and easy! You can change the recipe to your liking if you feel experimental. Oh and yes, you might have spotted an another fluffy things trying to have his piece of it!

Healthy breakfast: pancakes

Because of the situation right now in the world, I believe we need to distract ourselves from time to time. Listening to the news all the time is definitely not my way to go. This is why I want to keep my blog going with light – or not – topics that are important to me, because sharing what we like is a form of self-care, thinking of something else than the fear, panic or whatever is happening outside. So today, I wanted to share my pancakes recipe because it’s lighter to talk about that than the universities closing and the shortage of toilet paper. Let’s not close our eyes on what’s happening, let’s just say we all need to relax on something light and funny.

The other day, I was on the hunt for healthy and quick breakfast that would fill me until lunch, and I found this recipe that I really love. I’ve done it twice now and even my cat likes it (things are probably better when you’re not allowed to eat them anyway). It’s not sugary or anything, it’s quite filling and good, depending on what you’re putting on it. I personally love adding some honey or peanut butter.

What you’ll need
120 g of rolled oats
120 g of flour
300 ml of milk (of your choice)
1 dose (small packet) of baking powder
1 tbsp. of sugar (optional)
2 eggs

What you need to do
Mix all the dry ingredients together
Add the eggs and mix
Add the milk and mix it all together

You can make them right after that like normal pancakes, or you can wait until morning. In that case, you might need to add more milk because the oats will soak the liquid.

What’s your favorite topping when it comes to pancakes?

Brownies: how I finally managed to make them

You might not know this but baking and cooking are things that I really enjoy doing (when I don't turn into a control freak). I love when I do something good and pretty but for some reason, brownies were never something I manage to succeed. I mean, it's not the most complicate recipe to do but being a very clumsy person, it can't quick turn into something complicated. But today is the day where I finally made good brownies. I found the recipe in a "cocooning" cooking book I bought this summer (when I started to crave autumn) and there is a very quick and easy brownies recipe. Here it is:

For 8 persons:
- 150g of dark chocolate
- 80g of butter
- 120g of sugar
- 80g of flour
- 2 eggs
- 50g of pecan nut

- Preheat the oven to 180°C
- Butter a baking tin and put greaseproof paper inside.
- Melt the chocolate and the butter to the micro-waves (or bain-marie). Then add the sugar and flour. Stir together, than add the eggs. Stir everything again.
- Poor the preparation in you baking tin, add your pecan nuts at the top. Put in the oven of 15 to 25 minutes (it depends on how fondant you want your brownies).

Thanks to this Larousse cooking book who saved me with this recipe. As I said, it's so simple and quick (and delicious!). So now tell me what is your favorite thing to bake when it's raining outside?

PS: It's the first time I have to translate a recipe so I'm not very sure on how understandable it will be for my fellow English readers.
